Pursuing Your Husband through the Written Word

Pursuing your Husband 31 Days of Tips, Tricks, Prayers, How Tos, & Why Tos to Build a More Intentional Passion with Your Husband @JessicaMWhite.com

Yesterday we talked about the why of using the written word when it comes to pursuing your husband. Today I’m going to give you a list of what-tos. Now before you start thinking that this is going to be really intensive and require a lot of time…it’s not. It will require you to be intentional though, to actually put forth a bit of effort. If you want to make this simple…you absolutely can, if you want to make this complex…go for it.

For most of words are incredibly powerful, whether for good or for bad. We remember the kind and uplifting things that someone has said to us, as well as the things that tore us apart. We have to make a choice as to whether the words we share with someone will be edifying or not.

The How-to and What-to of Pursuing Your Husband through the Written Word at JessicaMWhite.com

I tossed out a couple of ideas yesterday about how to pursue your husband with the written word: Post it notes, cards, etc. Now we will touch on a few ideas of what-to say…

  • I love you.
  • List of what you love about your husband {character traits, physical attributes, etc}
  • A favorite memory you’ve shared {I recently shared one with Matthew from before we were dating and he had no idea that THAT moment had emblazoned itself in my memory so strongly}
  • Bible verse or poem of the day
  • Something you’re proud of them about
  • Encouragement for a difficult day ahead
  • Share a secret thought with them…I’ll leave that to your imagination 😉

One of the things that Matthew and I did while we were dating {and in the same town} was having a notebook in which we could write to each other. Every once in a while I come across that notebook and am so blown away at the time and thought we put into loving one another. We recently have started doing this again, because we both missed these words of love for each other.

Pursuing Your Husband Through the Written Word

31 Days of Pursuing Your Husband @JessicaMWhite.com

Most of us see our spouses every day, some of us at least see each other a few times a week, and some go months without seeing one and other.  While Matthew and I were in college we were over 300 miles apart for several weeks on end, and when he shipped out with his school {he went to a maritime academy} he would be gone for 2+ months, with no communication {there was no email or cell phones}.

Near or far pursuing your husband through the written word is possible.

For much of our relationship, before being married, we were forced to communicate to each other through writing. We have boxes of the cards and letters we sent each other. For Matthew, there was nothing quite as thrilling as hearing your name shouted during mail call. For me, I loved opening the mailbox to find a letter posted with a foreign stamp.

Those words between us were treasured.

During our marriage we still took time to write each other cards and little notes. We fell out of habit of doing this over the past few years and we’ve both felt the loss. WRITE TO YOUR HUSBAND! Take 30 seconds and write on a post-it and stick it on his rear view mirror; send him an email; tuck a card in his briefcase. Something that lets him know that you’re thinking of him!

For many people texting is another way of writing to one another. Matt only just got texting on his phone last year {he’s behind the times}, so we NEVER texted! He only just got a smartphone 4 months ago, until then texts were far and few between.

We have been so much more intentional the past few weeks with sending each other texts. It helps us to be a presence in the other’s daily life, to talk without kids running around screaming at us, to feel that even when we’re apart the other is still thinking of us.

Tomorrow I’m going to share some ideas of WHAT to write to each other….so stay tuned!
